Overall score: 3.5 / 5.0
Overall: Not bad. Very well constructed. Consistent freshly sharpened pencil taste - light cedar with a graphite twang. Sweet, dry aftertaste and finish. Tight draw and meager smoke volume until the last third - felt and smoked like it was too wet. Suggest these be removed from their cello for a while before smoking. Even burn, white compact long hanging ash. If you like these try JR's Genuine Pre-Embargo Countfeit Cubans in the EMS wrapper (GPECC) for the same price.
Ambience: In the sunroom at sunset watching the Mariners. Little woman is out of town for the weekend. Contemplating tomorrow's yard work.
Appearance: Box-pressed with a mottled maduro wrapper with many tiny water spots and a single large vein along the length. Long double cap. Slightly yielding along length.
Cut & Prelight: Strong aroma of sweet loam with a bit of coffee. Lip tingle. Tight draw. Feels wet - was stored en cello.
First third: Initially sweet and earthy loam, tasting just like it smells. In this case a good thing. Meager smoke volume. Earthiness evolving to sweet fresh sharpened pencil. Short, sweet, dry, mild aftertaste. White compact ash holding to 1.25".
Second third: Smoke still meager, requiring double stoking. Getting more pencil lead than pencil wood - the graphite twang is increasing. Aftertaste still sweetish, and gaining more twang. Straight burn.
Third third: Draw loosening and smoke volume increasing. Aftertaste lengthening. Abandoned at about 1.5". No noticable nicotine buzz.
