The Demonick Diatribes – #5

The Moral Superiority of Caring

Do you consider yourself a caring person?  Are you dismayed at the plight of hungry African children or the suffering of the old and infirm in Eastern Europe?  Does your heart ache at the sight of third world suffering and the repression of the innocent?  Do you get pangs of guilt and caring nightly seeing the suffering in the world through television?  Do you care more than corporations and the greedy conservatives who don't give a shit?  Of course you do.

So what have you done about it?

Have you produced a product to help the conditions of these suffering hordes?  Have you manufactured a crank-powered radio, a disease resistant rice, a pesticide to kill mosquitoes, or a drug to treat water-borne disease?  Have you brought honest work and employment to those enduring poverty?  Have you traveled with Doctors Without Borders, or World Vision, or donated time or even a few dollars to the support of these and organizations like these?

How have you earned the right to your Moral Superiority?

Unless you do something tangible, caring and feeling morally superior because you care is simply emotional masturbation, and you are no better, in fact morally worse, than those who truly do not give a shit about their fellow man.

Before you condemn those who make a profit providing products which help save lives, alieviate suffering, or feed the starving, get off your ass and donate time or money or both to a worthy cause of your choice.
